Welcome to my website.
It is my love of colour, textures and contrasts which inspire me.
I am interested in the energy of colours and the emotions they can convey. I work freely and intuitively, being drawn to work with certain colours initially and as a painting progresses the palette expands. My love of pattern and texture also feature in my work with layers of acrylic paint being added and sometimes scraped back to reveal contrasts in shape and form. I apply the paint in a variety of ways to create energy and interest.
Since I was a teenager I have been interested in abstract art and pattern. Originally I worked as a textile designer completing my course in 1980 and becoming a member of the S.I.A.D. I did this for many years before moving on to painting artworks on Thai tissue, watercolour paper and Japanese papers. I have always enjoyed experimenting with different materials and paints, producing both paintings and cards. My change of direction began in 1990 when I decided to paint using acrylics on stretched canvases. I love the vibrancy of the paints and their versatility.
I have exhibited my acrylic paintings at the Rudolph Steiner Centre, London, the South London Natural Health centre, The Violet Hill Studios, London and the Da Vinci Hotel art gallery, Eastbourne.
Group exhibition Brick Lane Gallery, London 28/05/2019 - 10/06/2019
